Pillar candles are nice because they burn a lot longer than your average tapered candle or votive candle.  You don't feel bad about spending a couple of bucks on one because they last so long.  I always keep a set of different sized ones on a bronze tray in our bedroom.  Then if I am in the mood, it is really easy to let my husband know.  All I have to do is light the candles and turn off the lights.
